Coolidge A. Eichelberger, Jr., 96, of Saxton, passed away at home on Sunday, March 1st, 2020.
He was born March 8th, 1923, in Cumberland, Maryland, a son of the late Coolidge A. Eichelberger, Sr. and Alice (Coonley) Eichelberger.
On June 23rd, 1949, and his family home in Saxton, he married Ruth (Steele) Eichelberger who passed away on May 21st, 2002, and is survived by their son, Coolidge A. Eichelberger, III of Saxton.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by an infant daughter Susan and a sister Virginia (Eichelberger) Shay and her husband Horace.
A graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1940, Coolidge studied Accounting at the Pennsylvania State University and upon graduation, he served with the United States Navy during World War II and afterwards in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a Storekeeper 3rd Class. He served with the 44th USN Construction Battalion (CB), the 17th USN CB, the 11th USN CB the 4th USN CB and the USS Hyades AF 28, receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon with Two Stars, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
After his service to his country, Coolidge returned home to work with his family as a bookkeeper at their family owned store in Saxton, E. Eichelberger and Son. Owning and operating the store from 1947 until retiring in 2005, the store was Coolidge’s true devotion. He also served on the board of directors for the former First National Bank in Saxton, and was a charitable man who enjoyed reading, studying business, hunting and fishing. A hard workingman who loved his family, friends and community, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
