Obituary for William I. "Bill" Brown

William I.” Bill” Brown, 86, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4th, 2019.

He was born Monday, July 25th, 1932 at his family home in West Providence Township, a son of the late Franklin I. Brown and Margaret (Jackson) Brown.

On June 11th, 1953 in Winchester, Virginia, he married Charlotte P. (Grimes) Brown who survives along with their children,
W. Barry Brown and wife Anna (Silvio) Brown of Cheswick, Allegheny County,
Lise Brown of Springdale, Allegheny County,
Michael Brown of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey

Four grandchildren, Zachary Brown, Brittany Brown, Zachary Neuhausel and Megan Neuhausel,

A sister Ethel Mae Dotich of Martinsburg,
A brother Glenn Brown of York,
A sister-in-law Carol Brown of Harrisburg, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing away by a sister Ann Harker, an infant brother Joseph Brown, and 3 brothers, Richard Brown, Blair Brown, and Jim Brown.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren and also attended the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren. A graduate of the Robert P. Smith School, Bill first worked as a stock boy at the G.C. Murphy store in Everett, where he met his wife to be, Charlotte, who made candy and worked the candy counter.

He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Private First Class, receiving the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and in July of 2017, received the Ambassador For Peace Medal from the Republic of Korea, expressing appreciation from the Korean government to American service men and women who served in the Korean War.

After returning home from his service to our country, Bill continued his career with the G.C. Murphy Company, working as a store manager throughout the east coast for 47 years until retiring. He then worked as a greeter at the Walmart in Everett, also stocking shelves, where you could always rely on him to help you find whatever you were looking for.

An avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, Bill loved and cherished by his family, and no matter where his work took him, he always put his family first. He will be remembered for his kind ways, willingness to help others, and his never ending cheerful smile.
